The Subway in Prague

A subway car making a stop

Prague has the only subway in the Czech Republic, and it is safe and clean. Riding the subway is based on the honor system insofar as it is assumed that a ticket has been purchased and validated as one enters the platform area (but in reality, one does not have to be in possession of a ticket to enter). There are conductors in and near the trains who may ask to see a validated ticket; anyone not having such a ticket is subject to a fine. The tickets are valid for subways, trams and buses. Passes are available for purchase at stations, kiosks and from machines. Fares for municipal transportation are always reasonable and affordable.
