A merchant displays cloth to shoppers at an open market

Malls in Bangladesh tend to be small and often have products arranged by floor. Clothing may be on one floor, whereas jewelry, music and toy stores will occupy another. One usually finds only traditional Bengali clothing at the malls. The cities also have highly developed commercial sections where there are showrooms that specialize in computers, furniture, or new cars. Western clothing is sold in shops and boutiques found in the commercial sections.

Open markets sell clothing, jewelry, leather goods and often traditional crafts and souvenirs. Tourists should be sure to visit an open clothing market, where lovely traditional saris are sold for a substantial discount.
